For my Black men, so brave, powerful, strong and confident.

You are the salt of the earth and the pillar of the community.

You are leaders, fathers, grandfathers, sons, uncles and cousins.

You shape the direction  of the Black family and community.

You teach lessons to be carried from generation to generation until the end of time.

You are far more than the media has depicted you to be.

You are not animals, but warriors.

Warriors for justice.

Despite all the forces against you, you continue to rise like a comet.

Many underestimate your strength and courage.

Many underestimate how long and hard you’ll fight and for which you’ll fight.

Many doubt your intelligence.

America wouldn’t be the same without you.

As I reflect on recent horrific events, I salute you.

You continue to forge ahead in the face of adversity.

Continue to let your light shine.

Your stars won’t fade.

 

 

They say the one constant in life is change.

What life brings in the mist of change we can’t arrange.

With change comes opportunities to grow.

With change comes opportunities to fulfill a destiny unknown.

With change  we can see the distance we’ve traveled and how much further we still have to go.

As I sit alone surrounded by my own private thoughts, I think of a dream.

A dream that flows through my veins like a stream.

A dream that keeps me awake at night.

A dream for which I will definitely fight.

I think of challenges to overcome and storms to whether.

I’m reaching for a dream I know.

Day after day, as I watch dawn rise over the city, I think of blessings rendered.

I often think of a love so tender.

Knowing that I have control over only my own thoughts and actions.

Day after day, I think of victories won and others yet to come.

Day after day, I realize who has been the constant, God.
