In retrospect

I remember the day we met

I thought life was as good as it could get

We did a lover’s dance

As we met by chance

We thought things wouldn’t get any better

We loved each other to the letter

In retrospect

I remember the conversations we had

They always made me glad

They reflected our love

Sent from heaven above

We held hands

As we made plans

We knew the deal

What we felt was real

In retrospect

We continued our journey

Ordained by  God only

We forged ahead

While praying instead

I don’t know where time went

Seems we’ve become spent

As I look back with respect

I’ll remember you

And all God carried us through
