We’ve been through the fire

Down to the wire

We’ve been all but forgotten

We’ve been down trodden

We’ve been scorned

We’ve had our hearts torn

Naysayers with no clout

Have tried to fill us with doubt

And still we rise

We’ve endured a lot of pain

And a lot of stress and strain

We’ve had a difficult past

Some didn’t think we’d last

Every moment filled us with dread

By something helped us forge ahead

Prayer helped us face each day

Come what may

And still we rise

We’ve gotten lost

But moved forward at all cost

We learned what was real

And we live it with zeal

Obstacles come and go

But we continue to grow

We stumble here and there

But God knows how much we can bear

And still we rise
