We’ve been shamed

We’ve been defamed

We’ve been scorned

Had our hearts torn

We’ve gotten lost

Didn’t know at what cost

While trying to reach a star

Which is hard to find

Couldn’t even speak

We’ve looked for a word

That’s the best we’ve heard

We’ve wondered where to begin

Didn’t think we could win

We’ve had to cry

Didn’t understand why

We’ve searched for a place

Filled with mercy and grace

We’ve longed for affection

As well as protection

We’ve tried to start a chapter

Filled with joy and laughter

We’ve tried to turn ourselves around

As we searched for solid ground

Even laugh a little while
