Separate Lives

We don’t talk anymore

It hurts to the core

Our love has turned to stone

It hurts to be alone

We used to be in love

It came from heaven above

We thought we had it all

But fate caused us to stall

We relished what we had

Now we’re both so sad

We looked at every journey

Meant for us only

Knowing God provided the way

For us to live every day

We didn’t pretend

We knew it had to end

Fate then arrives

Now we’re living separate lives

We held each other close

Cause bonding matters most

We knew we’d go far

As we reached for a star

We took our time

While still in our prime

We thought our love would last

Despite a difficult past

We gave at will

Our hearts didn’t stand still

It was part of God’s plan

One He reveals when He can

We kept going

All while knowing

We told a story

In all God’s glory

Before our love was lost

At a very high cost

We didn’t pretend

We knew it had to end

Fate suddenly arrives

Now we’ve living separate lives

Last Night

Last night

We said a silent prayer

Thanking God for being there

We reflected on the day

As we accepted God’s way

We relished all the peace

Our hearts couldn’t release

We kept our faith close

Cause faith matters most

We saw where love took us

And embraced the God we trust

We removed all doubt

That God would work things out

We laid our eyes

On every wonderful surprise

As we held hands

Right where love stands

Last night

We passed our test

Like all the rest

We felt something pure

We were safe and secure

We felt the love

That comes from heaven above

We gained strength

After talking with God at length

We saw something real

Too difficult to conceal

We saw what’s in stone

We knew we weren’t alone

We looked in our hearts

Saw where everything starts

We stayed faithful and true

God carried us through

We remembered who we are

We caught another star

We listened to God’s word

It was the best we’ve heard

We held each other near

Bonding we held dear

And we followed our guiding light

Last night

Higher Ground

We face every day

We accept God’s way

We look at our view

And what God brought us through

We share what we know

Seeing we have much further to go

We take a stand

While holding God’s hand

We face our naysayers

As we say our prayers

We learn faith is the key

To what’s meant to be

We face every test

Just like all the rest

Faith keeps us strong

Whether we’re right or wrong

We turn ourselves around

Before reaching higher ground

We face what we feel

Cause it’s too difficult to conceal

We see the journey

Meant for us only

We try not to cave

We accept the love God gave

We count our blessings

Without stressing

We let go of fear

When we see God standing near

Then turn ourselves around

Cloudy days

Appear in many ways

The moments we’re alone

Searching for what’s in stone

Moments we send a prayer

Wondering if God is there

Moments we search for peace

The heart won’t release

Days we seem to fear

Not knowing God is near

Moments we wonder who we are

While reaching for a star

Moments we seem to take

Before we see the memories we’ll make

Learning to stand

As we hold God’s hand

On cloudy days

We wonder where time goes

Before we learn what God knows

We learn to sit still

While we accept God’s will

We get stronger

As our days get longer

We search for affection

As well as protection

We look at what’s real

Too difficult to conceal

We try to rest

After every test

We learn lessons

That become heartfelt confessions

We search every heart

Where everything should start

We struggle with doubt

While God works things out

We search the soul

For what will make it whole

We follow a light

That shines day and night

While changing our ways

On cloudy days
