A Thousand Words

Thinking of words to say

Trying to speak the right way

Checking for a tone

Knowing I’m not alone

Going line by line

Hoping everything is fine

Hoping words will set me free

Longing to just be me

Realizing words have power

Speaking them hour after hour

Every word in its place

Words resting in a safe space

Learning what words mean

Seeing things I’ve never seen

Trying to find words that move

Knowing I have nothing to prove

Using words of reference

Using words of my preference

Trying to find words that uplift

Trying to find my gift

Looking for words that are strong

Words that let me know when I’m wrong

Showing that words aren’t a game

Looking for words that don’t shame

Longing for words that fill the soul

With what makes it whole

Looking for words that encourage

Getting words out of storage

Reaching for words of purpose

Hoping to see them surface

Looking for words that heal

Wanting words that reveal

Checking for words that I can use

Words that show I have nothing to lose

Words that I can give

Words that teach me to live

Without a lot of guessing

Or a lot of stressing

A thousand words

Passion

Embracing a brand new day

Accepting God’s way

Reflecting on the lessons

That are now confessions

Wearing a smile

That last quite a while

Lifting one voice

As we begin to rejoice

Holding each other close

Cause our bond matters most

Sharing our dreams

Until we burst at the seams

Hanging on God’s word

Cause it’s all we’ve heard

Doing a victory dance

Whenever we get a chance

Seeing that every step we take

Is a memory we’ll make

Reaching our peak

Whenever we hear God speak

Resting in a place

Filled with mercy and grace

Feeling a touch

That means so much

Seeing that this journey

Is for us only

Holding our heads high

Without asking why

Heading in the right direction

Having God’s protection

Remembering our name

Feeling no shame

Knowing what we have is real

Much too difficult to conceal

Counting every blessing

Without a lot of stressing

Knowing what we share

Knowing God is always there

Taking time to smell the roses

Before striking a few poses

Passing every test

Just like all the rest

Looking in each other’s eyes

Then finding a wonderful surprise

Never pretending

Cause our love is never ending

Hungry Heart

Look at the hungry heart

It knows where to start

It links with the soul

It makes life whole

It sees every dream

Strange though it may seem

It feels the love

Coming from heaven above

It travels far

Without receiving a scar

It gives as good as it gets

Without any regrets

It learns to smile

Even laugh a little while

It shares what it knows

As the beat consistently grows

It continues to pray

It sees God’s way

And it rests in a place

Filled with mercy and grace

The hungry heart

Is very rare

It knows God is there

It sits still

As it accepts God’s will

It stands on principles

As God works miracles

It removes every cloud

It makes everyone proud

It acts as a guide

Something no one can hide

It plants seeds

To very good deeds

It feels God’s power

Hour after hour

It does a victory dance

Whenever it gets a chance

It sees purpose

As it rises to the surface

It has a word

Which is all we’ve heard

It embraces every journey

Meant for the soul only

It truly believes

It sees what it achieves

We see where to start

With a hungry heart

Lost One

The lost one sees every day

He tries to see God’s way

He continues to travel alone

Wondering what’s in stone

He grapples with fear

Wondering if God is near

He searches for peace of mind

Which is hard to find

He longs for the love

Coming from heaven above

He looks all around

Wondering what he’s found

He looks in his heart

While deciding where to start

He longs for a home

Where his soul can roam

He tries not to cry

He often wonders why

And he doesn’t know

Which way to go

The lost one tries to be free

He wonders what’s meant to be

He looks at his naysayers

While saying his prayers

Then searches for a place

Filled with mercy and grace

He wants direction

He longs for protection

He tries to be strong

Whether he’s right or wrong

He deals with his sorrow

He wonders about tomorrow

He wonders what’s real

What he should conceal

He thinks about faith indeed

As he plants every seed

He longs to speak

He tries to reach his peak

He wants something pure

He longs to feel secure

He’s a lost one
