Still Standing

We’ve been shamed

We’ve been defamed

We’ve been scorned

Had our hearts torn

We’ve fallen far

Had to heal every scar

We’ve gotten lost

Not knowing the cost

We’ve been knocked to our knees

Not knowing who to please

We’ve longed for a word

Unlike any we’ve heard

Before we heard God’s voice

Then began to rejoice

We’ve wondered what to do

Before changing our view

We’ve longed for affection

As well as protection

Before God held us close

Like we mattered most

We were in a different place

As we ran our race

We had a soft landing

And we’re still standing

We’ve seen many a cloud

Wondered how to be proud

We’ve searched for peace

Our hearts can’t release

Tried to turn ourselves around

While searching for solid ground

We’ve looked for purpose

Lying at the surface

Looked straight ahead

While grappling with dread

We’ve had a feeling

That left us reeling

Before God soothed every soul

Then made us whole

We’ve had some doubt

That things would work out

We’ve wondered how to dream

Strange though it may seem

We’ve longed for strength

As we talk at length

We’ve had a soft landing

And we’re still standing
