We’ve been down

With smiles turned into a frown

We’ve been shamed

We’ve been defamed

We’ve been scorned

Had our hearts torn

We’ve gotten lost

Didn’t know at what cost

We’ve grappled with doubt

Wondered if things would work out

We’ve searched for solid ground

Until God turned things around

We’ve longed for love

Until it came from heaven above

We’ve wanted to be free

Then faith showed what’s meant to be

We’ve longed for a voice

To make us rejoice

Then God came to us

In Him we trust

We gained a renewed strength

By talking with God at length

We’re not stressed

We’ve gone from broken to blessed

We’ve wondered where to go

Before learning what we know

We had a misguided view

Until we saw what God can do

We’ve survived every day

By learning to pray

We’ve looked ahead

While filled with dread

Until God provided a path

Without unleashing His wrath

We’ve grappled with fear

Until we saw God standing near

We didn’t know where we’d land

Until we held His hand

We’ve searched our hearts

Where love really starts

We’ve finally learned to smile

Even laugh a little while
