Old Folks

I hear old folks talk about the past

How they made every moment last

How they made it through

When they saw what God can do

Why their hearts run free

Why they see what’s meant to be

The beautiful place

Filled with mercy and grace

The road they’ve traveled

Why their souls never unraveled

The unconditional love

Coming from heaven above

How they hold each other close

Cause bonding matters most

Why God’s encouraging word

Is the best they’ve heard

Finding a place

To run their race

How God dried their tears

And removed their fears

And all the dreams

That make them burst at the seams

I hear old folks talk about solid ground

All the joy they’ve found

The affection they feel

Things they know are real

What they chose to ignore

Why they’re filled to the core

When they learned their name

Then let go of their shame

When they looked ahead

Without an ounce of dread

The path God set

Why they let go of regret

How they learned to live

How they learned to give

Why they opened their eyes

To a wonderful surprise

And embraced life

While letting go of strife
