We’ve been shamed

We’ve been defamed

We’ve been scorned

Had our hearts torn

We’ve fallen far

Had to heal every scar

We’ve gotten lost

Not knowing the cost

We’ve longed for peace

Until we found some release

We’ve searched heaven above

Until we found love

We’ve grappled with fear

Until we saw God standing near

We’ve searched for purpose

Then saw it lying at the surface

We’ve searched our hearts

For where life starts

We’ve longed for something pure

Until God made us feel secure

We’ve prayed for strength

While talking with God at length

We are survivors

We’ve learned to smile

Even laugh a little while

We’ve learned what to ignore

As God fills us to the core

We’ve changed our view

After seeing what God can do

We’ve built dreams

That make us burst at the seams

We’ve learned to stand

While holding God’s hand

We’ve gotten turned around

Before finding solid ground

Faith has made us see

What’s truly meant to be

We’ve grappled with doubt

Until God worked things out

We’ve been weak

Until we heard God speak

We’ve looked at every cloud

Then saw what makes us proud
