I heard a cry in the night

As I looked at the moonlight

The sound traveled far

As it talked with God at length

It asked God where to go

It longed for a home

Where the soul could roam

It mentioned fear

Until it saw God standing near

It asked for a word

That deserves to be heard

It inquired about purpose

Before it rose to the surface

It longed to touch a hand

While the heart tried to stand

It changed its view

It saw what God can do

It made the eyes see

What’s truly meant to be

And it taught life lessons

That will become heartfelt confessions

Without unleashing God’s wrath

It revealed the power of God

It offered a wink and nod

It spoke of what the heart will gain

Through heartache and pain

It spoke of a mission

Then crystal clear vision

It revealed what’s in stone

It spoke of the journey

Meant for the soul only
